Leishka Laljith

Leishka Laljith is a Clinical Psychologist, registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the Board of Health Care Funders (BHF). She completed her Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of the Witwatersrand. Thereafter, Leishka gained experience in working in with children, adolescents and adults in the public health sector; having completed her internship and community service at the Child and Family Unit at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital, Helen Joseph Hospital and Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

Leishka offers both short and longer-term psychotherapy for children (in the form of play therapy), adolescents, adults as well as couples. She believes that the goal of psychotherapy is to gain insight into oneself and to develop effective ways of coping with the various stressors that one may experience. It is helpful to keep in mind that each person begins psychotherapy for a number of reasons, however, for most, there exists a desire or wish to feel better about oneself, one’s relationships and one’s life as a whole. Included in this, Leishka aims to provide a safe, non-judgemental and comfortable space in which to develop a capacity to be self-reflective and more aware of one’s thoughts, feelings and actions. As such, she adopts an integrative approach, working collaboratively with the client to adapt techniques to one’s specific needs.
